Opening Big Blue Barn fulfills a dream of mine….to have a place to hang out with my best friends AND yours! I have grown up around animals. I have owned domestic animals from Siamese cats, to dogs, such as Cocker Spaniel, Labrador, Flat Coat Retriever, Goldendoodle and Wirehaired Pointing Griffons. Additionally, as a young person, a pet raccoon and a Caiman, which is a small alligator from Central/South America.
My current pack of canines include a Goldendoodle, 11 years old, our breeding pair of Wirehaired Pointing Griffons, 4 years old, and 1 of their offspring. They certainly keep me busy!
Our home is rounded-out by our senior cat who is 15 years old, sometimes other feathered friends used in our training programs. My wife of 24 years had no idea what she was getting into, so many years ago!
My background as both a docent for Potter Park Zoo and as an educator, offer me the ability to share information about animals in a fun and engaging way that I could not in a traditional classroom setting. In addition to teaching about animals, I enjoy sharing my knowledge about the outdoors and coaching sports at all age levels.
Big Blue Barn offers tours for school, scout and other youth groups to learn not only about dogs and cats, but other species of animals. Youth can learn about where animals live, what they eat and so much more. Call us to arrange a tour.
